Plastic Pollution
What people in the UK think about plastic pollution
A recent Ipsos MORI/King's College Polling Club survey has found that in the UK, the public is concerned about plastic waste but that concern is not backed up by responsibility for finding a solution. Large shares of those polled said that higher taxes in supermarkets and shops would help solve the problem, along with forcing councils to spend more on recycling. Only a quarter of those polled backed big fines for householders who failed to recycle enough of their rubbish.
When it comes to what Britons would do themselves to solve the problem, 75 percent are willing to re-use disposable items such as plastic bags and bottles. 54 percent said they would buy more products made from recycled materials while 43 percent would stop buying goods that have packaging that cannot be recycled.
