Organic Food
Who's Buying The Most Organic Groceries?
The global market for organic food has grown rapidly, surpassing $60 billion in value in 2012. While organic supermarkets have become increasingly common in developed countries, many regular supermarkets have also started offering an increasingly wide range of organic produce. For some people, the higher price of these products can prove restrictive and there is a considerable difference in per capita revenue from organic groceries between countries.
According to the German Bund Ökologische Lebensmittelwirtschaft, Switzerland had the highest per capita revenue for organic groceries in 2016 at $337. Denmark and Sweden also have large markets for organic produce with per capita revenue amounting to $279 and $242 respectively. In the U.S. and Germany, the figure is about $100 less than Sweden while in China and Russia, organic food purchases are still a rarity.
