An uphill struggle for smart speakers in the UK?

A new survey by Ipsos Connect suggests that companies such as Amazon and Google could have an uphill struggle on their hands trying to increase take-up of their smart speakers in the UK. We showed recently how important products like Alexa can be for profit, but those who so far haven't bought into the new technology remain seriously unconvinced.

As our infographic shows, 83 percent said that they are unlikely to purchase one in the next twelve months. Chief amongst the reasons is simply a lack of desire to have one. More specifically, the idea of speaking to a machine puts off 12 percent of people and 10 percent have fears over data security. Another major hurdle for the time being seems to be a lack of understanding what smart speakers are for - 12 percent said they don't yet understand what they are for.
