Top 3 Markets Account for 50% of Twitter's Traffic
Six weeks ago, we reported on the fact that Twitter activity is heavily concentrated among a small percentage of heavy users. Analysing data of web analytics firm SimilarWeb, we stumbled upon another interesting fact: In the past three months, Twitter’s top three markets (The United States, Japan and France) accounted for more than 50 percent of traffic on Twitter.com and the Top 10 markets accounted for 80 percent of total traffic. I.e. Twitter activity is not only concentrated among a small percentage of users but also geographically. The United States and Japan are Twitter’s most important markets by a considerable margin. In both countries, Twitter has already become a mass phenomenon, whereas in many other regions it is still a service predominantly used by the online elites.
