Graduates

The UK's Shifting Graduate Landscape

There has been a huge increase in the UK's graduate population since the turn of the century. Today, there are about 14 million people in the UK with a third-level qualification. Back in 2002, graduates only accounted for 24 percent of the population and in the third quarter of 2017, that had increased to 40 percent. Even though this may sound like good news, The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development said in the past that the drive to get more young people into third level education is no longer justified given the level of student debt and the fact that graduates are "colonising" jobs in banking and education, jobs that used to be the preserve of school-leavers.
