Halloween Spending Will Hit Record Heights This Year

This year, 179 million Americans are going to celebrate Halloween and they are projected to spend a record $9.1 billion, according to the National Retail Federation. On average, an American male will spend $96 this year and an average female will spend $77.

Greeting trick-or-treaters is central to Halloween and 70.6 percent of Americans plan on handing out candy this year. 49.2 percent will put up decorations while 48.2 percent of people are going to dress up in costumes. For kids, action hero/superhero is going to be the most popular costume this year while among adults, it will be the witch. Americans' furry friends won't be forgotten of course and pumpkin is the top pet costume of 2017.
