Top 10 U.S. Cities with the Largest Population Growth

Half of the ten fastest growing cities in the United States between 2011 and 2012 can be found in the state of Texas. Americans are finding Texas attractive these days – there are ample employment opportunities, land is cheap and there is no personal state income tax.

Indeed, the Lone Star State has been enjoying a lucrative oil and gas boom, as well as rapid growth in the technology, manufacturing and service sectors. The Texas cities that grew the fastest between July 2011 and July 2012 were Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Dallas and Fort Worth.

New York had a population of 8.3 million in 2012 and remains the most populous city in the United States by a wide margin. The number of New York residents increased by 67,058 between July 2011 and July 2012, far ahead of second placed Houston, whose population grew by 34,625 thousand in the same period.
