International Series - Hindi

दिवाली

This infographic is part of our new International Series in which Statista is celebrating the diversity of its team by producing an infographic every week in a foreign language. This time, our colleagues Shreyas Suryanarayana and Amna Puri-Mirza have made a chart in Hindi.

Diwali is around the corner and as with every year, the vast majority of India will be celebrating. Not only is it the biggest festival of the year, it’s also big business. As our infographic shows, last year a grand total of ₹ 25,000 crores were spent on Diwali. In terms of e-commerce, the big winner last time round was Flipkart. The Bengaluru-based retailer shifted 15.5 million units in its Diwali-themed sale. Close behind was U.S. giant, Amazon with 15 million units.

As well as the gifts bought via such platforms, two markets which benefit hugely from Diwali are gold and fireworks. Diwali accounts for roughly 20 percent of all money spent on gold in India. When it comes to fireworks, the industry is said to be worth ₹ 2,000 crores, the vast majority of which is connected to the festival.
