Which Countries Give Most Towards the UN Refugee Relief per Capita?
The United States is the biggest single donor towards the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). According to the UNHCR, the U.S. has donated some $900 million in 2017. The European Union is the second biggest source of funds, having contributed more than $415 million.
A different picture emerges when breaking the sums down into per capita donations. With $16 per inhabitant the small European country Luxembourg is the single biggest contributor towards the UN refugee relief effort. The United States stands in 10th place with a mere $3.
In its data the UNHCR considers all governmental donors who fund its activities and contributions received from the private sector and national associations. The figures are rounded.
