Who Are America's Video Gamers?

It is a common myth that video games are for a young, mainly male target group. Even though young men make up a disproportionately large share of U.S. video gamers, the country's gamer pool is still very diverse. According to Pew Research, 21 percent of women play games at least some of the time while 19 percent say they play often. Older Americans also enjoy video games with a quarter of people aged 65 and over saying they play them at least some of the time.

Gaming also varies by education level. College graduates (36 percent) are far less likely to play video games than adults with some college (50 percent). The survey counted video games played on a computer, TV, game console or portable device, such as a mobile phone.
