U.S. Hits Refugee Admissions Quota Two Months Early

Refugee admissions to the U.S. have already hit the cap set by the Trump administration two months before the closure of fiscal year 2017. This however, comes as little surprise since the incumbent has drastically lowered the admission quota to 50,000 after former President Barack Obama had aimed to admit 110,000 refugees this year.

As our infographic shows, 84,994 refugees were resettled in the U.S. in 2016 while this year no more than the admitted 50,479 are permitted to stay.

The cutback of admission numbers came along with Trump’s travel ban on six primarily Muslim countries which materialized on June 29 this year.
