Nintendo Bounces Back After Six-Year Drought
Nintendo reported its earnings for the three months ending June 30 today. The company’s revenue jumped nearly 150 percent compared to last year’s June quarter, mainly thanks to the successful launch of its new game console, the Nintendo Switch.
Despite supply constraints that have led to the Switch being sold out virtually everywhere at the moment, Nintendo sold nearly 2 million units in the past three months. As our chart illustrates, the past quarter was the best June quarter, Nintendo has had in years. After the Wii’s blockbuster success, the company’s sales had stalled and the Wii U failed to reignite growth after its release in 2012.

This chart shows Nintendo's net sales for every quarter ending in June since 2008.
