Turkey Targeted by Militants and Terrorists
Terrorism
Time and again Turkey has been targeted by terrorists. Two main adversaries carry out such attacks: Kurdish militants and the Islamic State. While the decades old conflict with the Kurdish minority in the South East of the country has only recently turned hot again, the IS has taken its fight to Turkey after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan decided to get involved militarily in northern Syria against the Islamist organisation.
The most recent attack just after a football game in Istanbul on the weekend killed at least 30 people. It has been blamed on the Kurdistan Freedom Falcons TAK, a break-away splinter group of the Kurdish Worker’s Party PKK. Our infographic shows a timeline of these attacks this year alone.
