On the same day that Italy voted to reject constitutional reforms, potentially paving the way for a right-wing resurgence after the resignation of prime minister Renzi, Austrian voters rebuffed far-right presidential candidate Norbert Hofer. In what was a re-run of the annulled May election, independent and former green party leader Alexander Van der Bellen received 53.3 percent of the vote. As our infographic below shows, his victory came on a wave of the female vote. Women of all ages voted for Van der Bellen with a share of at least 60 percent. Hofer garnered the most support from men aged between 30 and 59, of which 58 percent voted for Hofer's Freedom Party of Austria.
