People Killed By Russian Airstrikes In Syria
Aleppo 'War Crimes'
Russia plans to observe a humanitarian pause in its airstrikes on Aleppo today, in a move supposedly aimed at allowing civilians and 'moderate' rebels to leave the city. The Kremlin had attempted to use the pause as a basis for negotiations with the US-led coalition for a 48 hour ceasefire - this was rejected, however, as 'too little, too late'. Yesterday, French president Hollande underlined previous accusations of Russian war crimes in Aleppo, setting the stage for an EU summit where Russia's role in Syria is set to be discussed. Russian warplanes have been bombing Syria since September last year resulting in, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, 9,524 deaths. The Statista infographic below gives a breakdown of these fatalities.
