Since the New York Times revealed that Donald Trump may have avoided paying federal tax for nearly two decades, the Republican presidential candidate has defended himself, labelling his use of U.S. tax rules "brilliant". Trump has often criticised others for not paying their fair share of tax with his targets including everyone from Barack Obama to undocumented immigrants.
Trump has criticised the latter group on many occasions, claiming undocumented immigrants were getting $4.2 billion in tax credits. Not only was that statement proven to be misleading, America's immigrants actually pay more tax than Donald Trump. According to The Institute on Taxation & Economic Policy (ITEP), they pay a considerabe amount of state and local tax, like other people living in the United States. Collectively, their tax contributions are estimated to to be $11.64 billion every year.
