New York is actually an exception to the "driving alone to work" rule with the majority of its citizens using public transport. Despite that, however, the Big Apple still has the most arduous commutes in the country, averaging 39.4 minutes each way. The average across the United States is 25 minutes, according to Wallet Hub and Census Bureau data published by Business Insider.
