Over 70% of Irish people cannot speak a foreign language
According to Eurostat, over 70 percent of Irish people cannot speak a foreign language, compared to just 22 percent in Germany and 41 percent in France. However, there is a valid reason for this. The majority of pupils in Ireland do learn a second language, Irish. In Irish-speaking schools, English is learned as a second language. This is not recorded by Eurostat.
