Nintendo's latest quarterly results delivered better than expected Switch console and software sales, driven to a great extent, according to the Japanese gaming giant, by the April release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Nintendo writes in its report that "the film positively impacted sales of Mario related titles, such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe which recorded sales of 3.22 million units".
While Mario is still the face of Nintendo, the company is not without a strong supporting cast. The latest addition to the Zelda franchise, 'The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom', released in May and has so far posted strong sales of 19.5 million units.
As this infographic shows, these results have led to levelled-up optimism at the company, raising its forecasts for the full fiscal year - ending March 31, 2024 - significantly compared to its last estimates in May.
