When it comes to finding our next shopping fix, nothing beats a good rummage around the Google search results for our chosen product type or more traditionally, simply talking to friends. According to a new Statista survey, 43 percent of U.S. online adults (16-64) said they usually find out about new and interesting products via a search engine, while 40 percent said it was friends and acquaintances that often inspired them.
The power of social media of of course not to be underestimated though. Here, 37 percent said they usually find platforms such as Instagram to be inspiring for new purchases. Customer reviews, renowned for often being fake/paid for, have less clout with just 24 percent saying they a source of information when shopping. The old-fashioned physical store is still in the mix, too, with 34 percent choosing this option in the Statista Global Consumer Survey.
