Despite the rise of streaming and digital media, the good old radio is still alive and well in the United States. Studies have shown that people across the U.S. still listen to the radio regularly, particularly in the car where it remains a powerful form of entertainment. So given the rise of tapes, CDs and streaming, all of which have failed to eliminate the technology, what radio content do Americans listen to in the 21st century?
According to Statista Consumer Insights, rock, alternative and indie music was the most popular genre on the radio in 2022, followed by country music and pop, adult contemporary. Interestingly, Rap & R&B, by far the most popular genre in terms of music and video streams last year, only ranks fourth among radio listeners.
