As England and parts of Scotland have been put back into full lockdown mode in response to the recent escalation in the Covid-19 pandemic, a YouGov survey has revealed the public's opinion on the latest countermeasures. A majority, 79 percent, say they support a nationwide lockdown to some degree, with a small majority, 51 percent, stating that they do so strongly.
In his announcement of the new rules, prime minister Johnson warned that the coming weeks would be the "hardest yet". Key to the decision has been the increase in pressure on the health service in recent weeks, with record numbers of Covid-19 patients currently in UK hospitals. The lockdown is due to be in place until 15 February at the earliest.
