Six years after Google, Facebook and Apple started publishing data regarding diversity among their employees, Tesla has now done the same, releasing its first ever Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Impact Report. It found that the automaker's leadership is 83 percent male and 59 percent white while its wider workforce is 79 percent male and 34 percent white.
The report states that "Black, African American, Hispanic, Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American, Native Hawaiian and Alaska Native communities are typically underrepresented in the U.S and that "this group collectively represents 60 percent of Tesla's workforce".
Referring to gender, it states that women represent 21 percent of Tesla's U.S. workforce and 23 percent of all promotions last year. However, it does add that it has work to do in this area, particularly given that woman are historically underrepresented in the tech and automotive sectors.
