It is becoming increasingly clear that if Joe Biden wins the U.S. presidential election, a peaceful transition of power is not a given. President Trump has been asked on several occasions if he would commit to peaceful transition of power, replying that "we'll have to see what happens". Data from a new poll from YouGov and The Economist shows that fewer than half of Americans believe Trump will vacate the White House peacefully if he loses on November 3rd.
24 percent of U.S. voters said that it is not very likely any transition will be peaceful while 18 percent said it is not likely at all. 59 percent of Biden's supporters think it is either not very likely or not likely at all that there will be a peaceful transition of power in January but those figures are far lower among the president's supporters. 27 percent of Trump's supporters think that it is not very likely or not likely at all that a possible January handover of power will be peaceful.
