One place where the presence of the coronavirus is being felt in a positive way in the UK is at the fuel pumps. As the cost of oil sinks due to historic lack of demand – leading to U.S. prices going into negative territory this week – the effect for the consumer, should they actually need to fill up during the lockdown, is a considerably smaller outlay once the tank is filled back up.
As government tracking of petrol and diesel prices shows, compared to the same week in 2019 the current average pump price is 16.8 and 18.3 pence per litre lower, respectively. That makes for an average cost as of this Monday of 108.63p for petrol and 115.73p for diesel.
