President Donald Trump's approval rating dipped after at least 130 Americans became infected with the new coronavirus, and at least nine people died. His job rating slumped to 47 percent and his disapproval rating increased to 51 percent, according to a March poll conducted by Gallup.
Last month, Americans overall were pleased with the Republican leader. Trump's approval rating had remained steady at 49 percent for two months. In fact, Trump's approval rating increased five points after he was acquitted by the Senate in his impeachment trial.
Part of the reason Americans had been so satisfied with Trump last month was because of the economy. Most U.S. adults said they think the market is getting better, and 63 percent said current economic conditions are good or excellent. At 9 percent, very few said it was bad.
The coronavirus, which began in Wuhan, China, has started to spread throughout the world—with more than 91,000 becoming infected and over 3,200 dying from the SARS-like virus.
