If the experts are right, Netflix's "The Irishman" will take home an Oscar for best picture at the 2020 Academy Awards. 12.8 percent of the experts at Gold Derby predicted Martin Scorsese's Netflix crime saga would take home the coveted award. The truth-based story features legends like Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel and Al Pacino.
Netflix increased the amount original films they produced in 2019, and it could become the year they’re not just looked at as a streaming platform—but a film studio, too. “This fall was a nice culmination,” Scott Stuber, Netflix’s film chief, said in an interview, according to Bloomberg. “I’m very proud of this slate. I can look you in the eye and say we’ve made as good movies this fall as anybody.” They created almost 60 new releases in 2019.
