Die Linke is ahead in Thuringia
Germany
In Germany, all eyes are on Thuringia ahead of the state elections there on Sunday. Die Linke (The Left Party) is currently in the lead, according to most polling institutes. Bodo Ramelow has led in a coalition with the SPD and the Green since 2014 but this time around, right-wing populists are expected to make major gains. Despite the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) growing in strength in Saxony and Brendenburg last, month, their success in Thuringia could be dented by a spate of recent Nazi slogans, death threats and an attack on a synagogue in the city of Halle.
