GCSE attainment gap progress has stalled
United Kingdom
There is an attainment gap in the English education system. GCSE students from disadvantaged backgrounds - defined as those eligible for Pupil Premium funding due to deprivation - are an average of 18.1 months behind in their English and maths attainment. As this infographic shows, the progress in closing this gap has also slowed in the last few years. Figures from the Education Policy Institute published today reveal that, despite being lower than the 19.7 months recorded in 2011, the gap has been hovering stubbornly around the 18 month mark since 2014.
