Where Divorce Is Most And Least Common Across Europe

Last week, Eurostat released its latest marriage and divorce statistics. The data shows that there were some 2.2 million marriages and nearly 1 million divorces across the EU in 2016 with 4.4 marriages and 1.9 divorces for every 1,000 people (the crude rate). The data also shows the EU Member States with the most divorces per 1,000 residents in 2017. Latvia has the most (3.1 divorces per 1,000 people), followed by Lithuania (3.0) and Denmark (2.6). Malta and Ireland are at the opposite end of the table with 0.7 divorces per 1,000 inhabitants. Ireland's most recent divorce data is from 2015.
