While immigration can prove a highly divisive issue, publics in many economically advanced countries it if it involves highly-skilled workers. This is certainly true in the United States where 78 percent of the public are in favor of highly-skilled immigration while 36 percent of the country's foreign-born population has a postsecondary diploma or degree according to Pew Research.
In the United Kingdom where free movement around the EU is set to be ended by Brexit, people still overwhelmingly support immigration if it's high-skilled at 84 percent. Just under half of the UK's immigrants has a college degree. Elsewhere, the story is different in Israel and Italy where the share of the population supporting high skilled immigration stands at just 42 and 35 percent respectively.
