French President Emmanuel Macron is due to give a speech this evening, addressing issues around the gilets jeunes or 'yellow vests' movement that has caused a wave of protests across the country, culminating on December 1 in what are said to have been the most violent protests the streets of Paris have seen since 1968.
Originally, the focus of the movement was the rise in fuel prices, but this has since evolved to become something far more encompassing of the social and employment conditions in the country. This chart tracks public opinion as the movement has evolved over the past weeks.
