Celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, Thanksgiving typically marks the beginning of the busiest holiday shopping season, with Black Friday and Cyber Monday particularly important for offline and online retailers alike.
According to Deloitte’s 2020 Holiday Retail Survey, many Americans try to get a head start on their holiday purchases this year, with 61 percent of U.S. consumers planning to start shopping for the holidays before Thanksgiving, many as early as October. Interestingly, only 15 percent of the respondents plan to wait until December to join the shopping frenzy, while 2 percent hold out until January to snap up some post-holiday bargains.
Deloitte predicts that holiday shoppers will spend an average of $1,387 per household this year with gifts accounting for $487 of that total.
