To mark International Yoga Day, we’ve created a chart on six popular types of yoga, as defined by the Yoga Alliance. From the flowing postures of Vinyasa to the intense experience of Bikram, which is carried out in a heated room, there are several types of the ancient practice for participants to get involved with.
Yoga can be traced back to Northern India, some 5,000 years ago. It is one of the six main schools of philosophy of Hinduism, and the terminology traditionally used is Sanskrit - one of the oldest languages in the world. The practice teaches among other things, meditation and how to feel grounded, as well as the physical benefits of boosting muscle strength and flexibility.
