In 2023, about 1.75 million passenger cars were produced in the United States (U.S.), remaining nearly the same as compared with the previous year. The production of commercial vehicles, on the other hand, recorded an increase in 2023. That year, roughly 8.87 million units of commercial vehicles were produced in the U.S., up from about 9.31 million units one year earlier.

The values for light and heavy commercial vehicles have been added up. The values for 1994 through 2018 were taken from the National Transportation Statistics report released by the U.S. Department of Transportation in November 2020.
Prior to 2000, the country of manufacture was recognized as the producing country. To conform with current OICA (International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers) practices, starting in 2000, the country of final assembly was recognized as the producing country.
Includes all trucks and buses. Light trucks, such as pickups, sport utility vehicles and minivans are categorized as commercial vehicles: heavy/medium duty buses and trucks over 14,000 pounds gross vehicle weight rating; through 2015, including trucks under 10,000 pounds, such as sport utility vehicles, minivans and vans, compact and conventional pickups, and trucks and buses over 10,000 pounds, according to the source.
