U.S. juice and smoothie market - statistics & facts
Juice and smoothies are a strong part of the beverage category. During the last few years, U.S. fruit juice production showed volatile tendencies. In 2020/21, production amounted to around 230,000 metric tons at 65 degrees brix. Since 2019, the sales volume of juices and juice drinks in the U.S. is increasing, with sales reaching almost 1.4 million 192-oz cases in 2021, an increase from 694 million cases in 2014.
Orange fruit juice and drinks are by far the most popular category among refrigerated juice and juice drinks, as the latest U.S. retail sales data released by market research firm IRI showed. Some leading brands of refrigerated orange juice in the United States include Tropicana Pure Premium, Simply Orange, and Florida's Natural. Private label products were also popular in 2020, with sales reaching almost 600 million U.S. dollars.
The latest survey results revealed that about 23 percent of U.S. consumers tend to drink juice daily. Around 30 percent of surveyed consumers drink juice multiple times a week. Domestic annual consumption of juice drinks is forecast to total around 17.4 liters by 2027, a decrease from 18.11 liters in 2021.
