A total of 634,000 metric tons of household plastic bottles were placed on the market in the UK in 2019. Of this total, 377,000 metric tons were collected for recycling, giving a collection rate of 59 percent. In comparison, 311,000 metric tons of household plastic film were placed on the market, of which just 22,000 metric tons were collected for recycling. It is estimated that of the 1.45 million metric tons of household plastics packaging consumed in the UK, 39 percent was collected for recycling.
