In 2017, 24.4 percent of telecommunication companies and 13.6 percent of firms providing IT services used radio frequency identification (RFID) for personal identification or access control in Italy. Radio frequency identification is a kind of technology that uses electronic tags placed on objects or people to send information to an electronic reader exploiting radio waves.
