Web.de is the most used e-mail provider in Germany. Other leading providers were GMX and Google’s Gmail.

Will Gmail overtake GMX?

GMX is currently owned by 1&1 Mail & Media GmbH, a German internet service provider. While it is the most popular email service among Germans, in terms of mobile net reach it was overtaken by Web.de, which was in the top ten. Web.de is actually a little older than GMX and both companies share the same owner. While Gmail takes third place in this statistic, it is climbing to the top of world rankings among email providers.

Daily emails on the rise

The share of German internet users who went online to send and receive emails has been growing steadily in the last decade. After all, it is one of the mainstays of online communication. The number of people sending and receiving emails daily has gone up in recent years, but so has the number of people saying they never email, even if it is, in comparison, a small share compared to those who do.
