This statistic represents the proportion of renewables in EU-28 member countries' gross final energy consumption from 2015 to 2019 and gives a target value for 2020. In 2019, the proportion of renewables in gross final energy consumption was especially high in Sweden, Finland, and Lativa. On the other hand, Malta, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg had particularly low shares of renewable sources in their energy consumption.

The source adds the following information: "This indicator is calculated on the basis of Directive 2009/28/EC on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources. The calculation is based on data collected in the framework of Regulation (EC) No 1099/2008 on energy statistics and complemented by specific supplementary data transmitted by national administrations to Eurostat. Data collection covers the full spectrum of the 28 Member States of the European Union. The share of energy from renewable sources is calculated for four indicators: Transport (RES-T), Heating and Cooling (RES-H&C), Electricity (RES-E), Overall RES share (RES)"
The data refers to the Eurostat Database Statistic, online data code T2020_31.
