In 2015, the average selling price of desktop PCs was calculated to be 544 U.S. dollars. This continued the decade long trend of the average selling price decreasing. As PCs became more popular and the market matured, personal computers became more affordable for a wider audience. This increase in popularity led to lower costs of production and manufacturing.
Changes in the PC market
Since 2015, the PC market underwent quite a bit of changes, such as facing a large decrease in terms of total unit shipments. Additionally, the industry has shown trended towards consolidation in recent years with major PC vendors HP, Lenovo, and Dell picking up more and more of the market share. One reason for this is an overall shift in the electronics industry towards the internet of things (IoT), software as a service, and the rise in popularity of handheld devices.
