Distribution of out-of-school children in Africa 2019, by region
As of 2019, the share of out-of-school children in Africa was highest in the western region of the continent. In West Africa, 40 percent of children of primary and secondary school age were not enrolled. The second highest rate was registered in East Africa, at 34 percent. The Northern region of the continent, on the other hand, had the lowest rate of out-of-school children with three percent.
