Germany is the largest contributor to transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union, having released 149 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e) in 2022. This accounted for roughly 19 percent of the EU's total transportation GHG emissions that year. France and Italy followed with 128 and 109 MtCO₂e, respectively.
