Revenue of JR East from passenger rail transport in Japan in FY 2013-2022
In the fiscal year 2022, the revenue of East Japan Railways Company (JR East) generated through passenger railway transportation in Japan amounted to approximately 1.43 trillion Japanese yen. Compared to the previous year, the passenger revenue recovered from around 1.11 trillion yen. With its tracks spanning more than eight thousand kilometers, JR East is the leading railway operator in the north-western region of the main island called Honshu. The company was incorporated after breaking up the state-owned Japanese National Railways (JNR) in the 1980s, fully privatized in 2002.
