Rakuten Insight in April 2020 on panic buying after the coronavirus outbreak, a majority of both female and male respondents in Japan stated that they did not stock up on items because they trusted that supermarkets would have enough supplies. At a slightly higher share than men, about 14 percent of female respondents did not stockpile because they had enough food items at home. In the same survey, around 95 percent of all Japanese respondents indicated that they had not engaged in panic buying because of the coronavirus pandemic.
