Share of people who use cash in the UK 2018, by expense
According to a nationally representative survey among consumers in the United Kingdom conducted in November 2018, approximately 86 percent of respondents used cash to pay a newspaper. In comparison, only nine percent paid in cash for their holiday in cash and ten percent, for their gas electricity and water bills. It can be seen that cash is preferred method for payment of daily, unscheduled expenses with lower sums. Bigger purchases or scheduled expenses are usually paid with cashless methods such as debit, credit card or direct debit.
