Lost tax revenue due to the opioid epidemic in the U.S. from 2000 to 2016
It was estimated that the opioid epidemic resulted in federal tax revenue losses of around 26 billion U.S. dollars between 2000 and 2016. The opioid epidemic caused a further 11.8 billion dollars in lost state government taxes during this time.
