5 Countries Accounted For 80% Of Terrorism Deaths In 2013
According to the Global Terrorism Index 2014, there were 10,000 terror attacks across the globe last year, resulting in nearly 18,000 deaths. 80 percent of these, some 14,722, were in just five countries: Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria. The fatality rate for 2013 is 61 percent higher than 2012. Iraq experienced 6,362 deaths or 35.4 percent of the worldwide total, making it the worst affected country. Afghanistan and Pakistan come second and third with 3,111 and 2,345 terror-related fatalities respectively.
