According to a study carried out by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, alcohol abuse causes 88,000 deaths in the United States every year. In addition for being responsible for one in 10 deaths among working age adults, excessive drinking also costs the country more than $220 billion each year
When it comes to alcohol-attributable deaths by state, New Mexico leads the way by a considerable distance with 51.2 deaths per 100,000 residents. Alaska and Montana come second and third with 41.1 and 37.7 deaths per 100,000 residents respectively.
