In 2022, Guinea scored 21 points in the Global Expression Report (GxR), the lowest since 2000. Furthermore, the openness of the society and freedom of speech was highest between 2010 and 2019, fluctuating between 32 and 36 points. In 2020, the then president, Alpha Condé, passed through changes to the constitution, after a referendum to allow him to stay in power for a third term.
